As the co-creator and CEO of The Big Backyard, Steven was instrumental in developing, producing, and syndicating radio and TV programming that showcased new Australian bands to over 1,500 media outlets across 79 countries. His leadership in legal and business affairs and his role as a co-producer of a major live outdoor concert, which was broadcast internationally, underscores his unique ability to seamlessly merge legal and creative pursuits. The firm’s clientele during this time included multinational corporations and government agencies in industries such as travel, leisure, technology, hospitality, media, and telecommunications.
In 2004, Steven returned to the legal field as a partner at a commercial law firm in Sydney, where he specialised in commercial litigation. His legal career then further evolved during his 15-year tenure as General Counsel for a financial services company. In this role, Steven oversaw relationships with internal business clients, regulators, and external legal teams, provided expert legal advice on financial services, managed investment schemes and superannuation funds, and negotiated complex commercial agreements. His deep understanding of financial law and regulatory frameworks has made him a sought-after advisor in the financial sector.
Beyond his legal accomplishments, Steven is also a seasoned musician, filmmaker, and scriptwriter. As a songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist for Gravity Pirates, he recorded two albums that gained international recognition, including airplay on the BBC and VH-1. His passion for the arts extends to his work as a producer, with several projects currently in active development.
